1/05/2008: AP Melos'es out

Springman Records alumni Tera Melos just posted a neat blog on MySpace where they make interesting observations about Alternative Press Magazine and suck brains out of crawdads. Click Here to reveal it!
"Puff, Puff, Give"
well it was a nice run, but our Alternative Press 15 minutes of fame is up. well, sort of.

last month we were featured as one of AP's bands to look out for, or something like that. they were very kind in their write up and said some really nice things. super rad.

this month they reviewed our Drugs to the Dear Youth EP. it recieved 2.5 golden stars out of 5. that's a 50%. a failing grade. rats! weird how you go from being the band to watch out for to being the band to avoid at all costs in one months time. if you can take the shameful score out of the picture for a second, the review is actually well written and says some rad things about us. have a look-see.

frank zappa and hella!? what!? are you kidding me? that's probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said about us. i don't get the metallica reference. don't get me wrong, me and nate are highly influenced by ...And Justice For All, but i just don't see it. we're very proud to have made records that seemingly exhaust the senses- they require a certain level of awareness and patience to fully digest and comprehend.

it's always been sort of a joke with us- how AP would never give our band the time of day. they straight up passed on our first record. didn't even want to give it a bad review. i suppose since forward thinking music is quickly becoming the flavor of the week they have a lot to keep up with. even though we couldn't quite make the cut as one of those "ap bands," we're stoked to have at least made it into the goliath of a magazine. who knows, maybe this time next year we'll be on the cover, of course only after they have photoshopped all the zits off of our faces and white spots out of our beards.

to cap off this blog, i found a pretty sweet picture in our photobucket account: behold the epic crawdad feast of 2007.

we ate these fuckin things in new orleans while on tour with Damiera. Rock, pictured on the left, showed us how to suck the brain juice out of them. i sucked so much brain juice that day i ended up with a gnarly stomach ache.

2/16/2007: Weekend Update

School has been nuts, sorry for the lack of week-day updates.

This past week has included LOTS of mail-order (THANK YOU!), we just started sending out the Big D / Brain Failure splits (they will start arriving shortly after the Feb 20 "street-date").

Tera Melos is almost done with their Fall Of Troy tour, and about to join up with my neighbors in The Brilliant Red Lights, who just called me to ask that I break into their apartment and eat the soy corn-dog that Evan left in the microwave this morning.

1/31/2007: Some updates, some class

School started this week so I've been behind on website updates, but not on mail-order! The post office is getting sick of seeing me every day and has been making me put stamps on all the packages by hand.
The Tera Melos pre-orders have been sent but may take up to a week since most of you ordered with "Media Mail" shipping. It took a week to send them all since they're very securely wrapped in cardboard to avoid damage, sorry to keep you waiting but this one will be worth it! E-mail the address listed up on the top of this website if you have any questions on that.

Some quick updates:

The Springman Records showcase in Sacramento on Friday was a huge success and lots of fun, thank you all for coming out! I especially enjoyed handing out cupcakes and shark-themed 3D glasses to everyone before The Phenomenauts' set, even though the 3D glasses had nothing to do with anything.
The Shecretions built some AMAZING games out of cardboard that we didn't get to use since it was so crowded and I was on crutches, but I saved them in my closet and will bring them out to future events so you can throw the red rocket in the black hole and blast Skelator! Hopefully they'll also be into setting up the Kissing-Booth...

Tera Melos is on tour with The Fall Of Troy and running out of merch.

Big D And The Kids Table's pre-order for the Brain Failure split starts in.. Shit, 15 minutes, I better set that up, check back in an hour.

The Phenomenauts, Teenage Harlets, Groovie Ghoulies and Epoxies have something epic up their sleeve that I'll tell you about later.

Jason Webley is in Europe.

And get comfortable with the idea of your favorite record of 2007 being called Huge Black Man just so this doesn't catch you off-guard once it finally drops.

1/24/2007: Interviews, PBS, and some nerdy shit

I just found some fun interviews with a whole bunch of our bands over at Sound Scene Revolution. For your listening pleasure and entertainment, listen to their chats with The Phenomenauts, Tera Melos and Jason Webley. Their other interviews are pretty kick-ass too with a ton of my favorite bands, this website will keep me from being at all productive for the rest of this week
==
I talked to someone at PBS months ago about YouTube. It looks like they just pulled a quote from that conversation for a blog post about the future of the music industry on their "MediaShift" website. Not terribly exciting, but my parents will be happy to see my name on PBS.
==
This isn't punk rock at all, but my favorite book series of recent memory, the Song Of Ice And Fire cycle by George RR Martin, is being turned into a TV series by HBO and I am way super excited in the nerdy'est way possible. Read that shit if you want something way better than that Lord Of The Rings total bullshit. Start with "A Game Of Thrones" which is $3.99 on Amazon.com and everywhere else with the latest printing.

1/20/2007: Free Tera Melos, Ghoulies European Invasion!

Want to download the new Tera Melos record for free? Since streaming it at punknews.org obviously isn't good enough for you greedy fucks, ask these guys. I guess Tera Melos is post-punk? They posted it before we even picked up the vinyl, so I'm guessing it's a rip of the punknews.org stream, but have no idea really. Thanks Samantha!

1/19/2007: Tera Melos Tour Kickoff

Tera Melos show lineThanks to everyone who came out for last night's Tera Melos tour-kickoff show! It was lots of fun, and the Melos' 3rd consecutive sold-out show at Bottom OF The Hill.

Despite having tickets, these kids got tired of waiting in the line that wrapped around the block.

They now have 344 copies of their 12" EP, Drugs to the Dear Youth, for sale on this tour. That's it! Visit T.M. on MySpace for tour-dates.

1/08/2007: NO MORE DRUGS

We pre-sold 125 of Tera Melos' new 12" EP, Drugs To The Dear Youth. This is 25 more than we meant to sell, so you last 25 people got extra lucky squeaking in while I took a nap!

If you snoozed too, your only way to get it is from Tera Melos on their upcoming tour with The Fall Of Troy. If they somehow manage to not sell out of the remaining 375, there is a chance we might have more later, but there's really no way they'll have any left after this tour.
THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO PRE-ORDERED!!!

We have lots more limited edition vinyl projects coming out this year. I don't want to give to much away just yet, but projects are in the works with some very exciting bands from the East Bay (pig-latin for "The Beast"), North Bay and Sacramento.

Big D And The Kids Table and Brain Failure's new split-LP, From Beijing To Boston, will be available for pre-order starting February 1st.

1/02/2007: Pre-Order the new Tera Melos record!

Drugs to the Dear Youth (12" EP)

Tera Melos says:
there are 100 copies of our new e.p. "Drugs To The Dear Youth" available for pre-order. So just clik on the link. Don't be weirded out by the picture that you see, that is a painting that serves as the cover. Nick worked really hard on it, so just act like it is a totally normal piece of artwork--much like your (and my) parents acted when you brought home a shitty fingerpainting from kindergarten and acted all stoked on it. It is just like that but with colored discs inside that play music. Beat that, stupid little kids. And who are you to judge those creatures? They are in love, so leave them alone. They are about to finger-bang each other and you should be o.k. with that. It is their right. Why does their love freak you out so much? But seriously, as the title suggests, it is all about the
kids...

Hurry up and pre-order before they're all gone and you're left crying like a big sad baby.

UPDATE 1/3/07: We have less than 30 left! Thanks to the 70+ of you that ordered over the past 24 hours, this one won't last much longer...

1/01/2007: Happy New Years!!!

We will be a day late getting the Tera Melos pre-order link up, so swing back around here Tuesday night to make sure you get one.

Speaking of, Tera Melos played with two more of my favorite bay area bands this weekend, Desa and Judgment Day. The show sold out early and was fucking incredible. One of my favorite parts was Jeff in the back of the room heckling, being hilariously obnoxious and getting dirty looks from people who didn't recognize him as their old guitar player.

You NEED to be familiar with all three of these bands, here is the video-flier from that show below. JD will be playing 924 Gilman St on January 12 with bands that any Phenomenauts' Command Center regular should know and love; Arnocorps, Cookie Mongoloid and The Boweltones.

Link: Judgment Day on MySpace.com

And,

HAPPY NEW YEARS!! We had a super fun party at Springman HQ in Cupertino, major props to all the secret bands for playing. I broke my foot around 4am while attempting some Micahel Jackson dance-moves and am now cant walk, crawling up my steps after getting X-Rays was totally lame.
But here are some pictures, I'll post more as I find them!

12/08/2006: Wax Tracks

A quick reminder before I start this update:

Check out our holiday deals! Lots of music is listed to the right, including special low-prices for compilation and Phenomenauts related packages. Our prices are low, the music awesome, and mail-order is getting sent out three times a week, so hurry up and purchase your friend's love for the new year!

On to the news:

Check out Big D And The Kids Table's website for studio updates as they record their upcoming full-length for our friends at Side One Dummy! The demo's for their new songs are incredible, come March or April when that record comes out, we will all be in for quite a treat.
To hold us over until then, their split CD with Brain Failure (from China!) will be released on February 20th on Bad News Records. We are pleased to announce that the vinyl version will be on Springman with a limited pressing of 1,000 on colored wax! More info on that one soon.

Thanks to everyone who gave "five-star" ratings to The Phenomenauts music video for "Mission" over at MySpace.com, putting us on their front-page for a week and getting over 110,000 full video views!!! I still can't believe that happened, and would like to welcome all the brand new cadets to this here lovely website.
The Phenomenauts have just a few shows booked right now that we will be announcing very soon, but will be back with a very triumphant return in March or April with loads of new material and effects! And hey, with all these new songs, you never know whats just around the space-corner...

The Teenage Harlets will be doing a little west-coast tour in January with our idols in The Rock And Roll Adventure Kids! Also in the works is a series of super-sweet split 7"'s that we'll be telling you more about going into 2007.

Tera Melos is doing a shit-load of shows all over the country with The Fall Of Troy! They just got out of the studio too, and if we can get our shit together on time for this tour, well, I'll tell you later, just be excited. Be very excited.

And finally, thank you to TUK Shoes for hooking up The Phenomenauts, Big D And The Kids Table and The River City Rebels! When you see us looking all bad-ass and tall, its TUK's fault.

I just got these pretty red ones:

OK Happy Holidays everyone. I will now go back to filling your mail-orders and finishing my homework (The semester is almost over! I have 60 more pages to write!) -- OH, and if you live in Sacramento and happen to be coming out for KWOD's "Twisted Christmas" concert at the Arco Arena later today (Friday), I will personally be dressed up like that guy from My Chemical Romance and doing some WWE shit that would make Andy Kaufman proud up on stage during The Secretions' set! They play first, so get there early! We will be bringing the real Black Parade. If you don't have $35, don't worry, we'll post it on YouTube. I'm excited about seeing Gnarles Barkley and MCR.

11/06/2006: TeraNakedMelos

I just got back from visiting Tera Melos in the studio where they are recording for a brand new CD. Nick and Nathan were naked for some reason, and Nick refused to take off his wizard mask. I think Vince was doing his best to ignore them.

The new songs shred. Be excited.

11/02/2006: News Dump!!!

I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween. Things at Springman HQ are BONKERS! Thank you for coming here for your Holiday shopping needs, we have lots of great cheap CDs and we appreciate your keeping our mail-order department super busy.

Here is a band-by-band update!

The Phenomenauts just announced another round of dates with The Toasters coming up this month! Visit their MySpace page for the details, and check back next week for EVEN MORE shows.

The Phenomenauts' Annual Zombie Party was incredible as usual this year, with a surprise appearance by The Teenage HarNuts:

Those with a good memory may remember The PhenomeNuts from last-year:

Big D And The Kids Table just played two epic Halloween parties in Boston at The Avalon! If you have pictures or video from either show, please post it online for us to share! Big D just got done playing a bunch of shows with The Toasters, I like how they play with our bands on both coasts. Check out Big D on tour with Rancid in December!
Visit Big D on Myspace for tour updates.

The Groovie Ghoulies are almost done with their own Cramps tour, including their own Halloween show at The Fillmore in San Francisco! Check back soon for LOTS AND LOTS of shows all over California and more Ghoulie news... Updates on their MySpace page.

Tera Melos just got back from an epic tour with The Fall Of Troy! There is no rest for the awesome, Tera Melos will be recording for an EP CD this weekend. Three songs, it will be about 30 minutes, I guess that's an EP? They played almost all new songs on this Fall Of Troy tour, if you caught any of the sets, you ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED about these upcoming recordings.
Stay tuned to Tera Melos' myspace page for more news and tour updates.

The Secretions are in the running to play the "Twisted Christmas" show at the Arco Arena in Sacramento! This would be the hugest show they have ever played, and our boys would get to make total asses of My Chemical Romance and Papa Roach. They won't make fun of Gnarls Barkley though.
PLEASE!!!! Click here to vote. You have to register with KWOD first, it only takes a minute and if you click the box, they won't send you any annoying e-mails or ever bug you ever again.

Lots of Secretions shows coming up all over CA (and even Reno), visit them on MySpace for show listings and other news updates, and word on Danny Secretions new radio show!

Jason Webley just got back from tour Australia with The Dresden Dolls! Check him out this November touring the West Coast with a full band, including Jherek of The Dead Science and Xiu Xiu. If you attend one of the shows, please draw a unicorn for Jherek and tell him it's from me (Avi).
This year's big Seattle show will be on November 11 instead of the usual Halloween! Tour dates and other updates are on Jason's website.

The Teenage Harlets are laying low, having started a big fight with The Phenomenauts over their "Free Angel Nova" t-shirt.. Just kidding! See them on tour all January and February, including a bunch of dates with our secret crushes in The Rock And Roll Adventure Kids!
Add them on MySpace if you're fifteen years old.

The River City Rebels just got back from a very strange national fly-away tour of free shows paid for by a big evil cigarette company. I know lots of hippies who smoke, but none smoke independently made cigarettes, so eat a dick. It was a great tour, and debuted a bunch of The Rebels fucking incredible new songs! Stay tuned for more news on that.
Listen on their MySpace page!

The Rum Diary has been laying low, but has a brand new drummer and will start playing again next month! Stay tuned for news on that too. And check out their limited edition four-way-split 7" with The Jade Shader, Facing New York, and Years Around The Sun!!!
Visit them too on MySpace.
And check out Daniel's almost finished solo-project, Identical Homes, its panty-dropping music.

*PHEW* I think that’s it for now. Our records are still in heavy rotation at the Sacramento post office down-town.

PEACE

9/08/2006: Jeff Worms leaves Tera Melos

In a myspace.com blog-post, guitarist Jeff Worms has announced his parting ways with Tera Melos. "We are all still friends," said Worms. "The guys made it clear that I could come back whenever (don't hold your breath), which is very sweet of them."

The remaining members will continue touring in support their untitled debut CD, and have some really fucking exciting things coming up that I can't tell you about just yet. There are no plans to actively search for a new guitar player, but the band is open to getting a new member if the chemistry fits.
We've all had a blast hanging out and working with Jeff and wish him the best.

Danny Secretion must have been going all-out in the oral-treats department while hanging out at the Sac News And Review office, as his band has finally won a Sammie award for "Best Sacramento Punk Band!"

The Secretions have been nominated for the past fifty straight years without winning once, we were seriously ready to burn the SN&R offices to the ground. We are actually kind of bummed that we don't get to use all these nifty explosives, but congratulations to the Secretions for finally winning what we knew they should have had all along, and to the Sac News And Review for getting it right!

Tera Melos were also nominated in the contest for "Best Metal Band" (yea we know they aren't metal, but since the Melos doesn't really fit in anywhere, its all cool). Nobody called me to say if Tera Melos won anything, but if they did, I'll let you know and we'll have a big taco-party.

And don't forget, THESE BANDS ARE ON TOUR:
(clicky clicky click click for dates on their myspace pages since our website is still broken)

The Teenage Harlets
Secretions
Big D And The Kids Table
The Phenomenauts
Jason Webley
Groovie Ghoulies (and Haints!)

Mail-order update: Springman Mail-order is on hold until June 21st, so for now, visit www.interpunk.com or your favorite online mail-order, and send us an e-mail if there is anything you can't find. We have been a bit slow with mail-order since moving to Sacramento earlier this year, so we are going to make sure it is back to being a well oiled super-fast machine before we bring it back. If you are still waiting on an order for anything other than Pain's Jabberjaw CD, PLEASE send me an e-mail so we can take care of that (and if you're waiting on the Pain disc, we will have them back in stock soon!)

Lots more exciting things are in the works, stay tuned for updates. Come back over the next few days for everyone's updated summer tour dates. And thanks again for all your support!

XOXO

2/18/2006: Melos Out

Tera Melos, being an instrumental band, usually doesn't need very long sound-checks. Two night ago at Junta, the show was being recorded, so they took a good half hour making sure all the levels were just right. Then thirty seconds into the first song, the neck on Nate's guitar snapped right off.
Pictures and video coming soon...
See Tera Melos in your town, they are on tour right now. Updated dates are on their MySpace.

1/05/2006: Tera Melos in all the news!

Then comes the beautiful mayhem, like the band fell down a long flight of stairs and somehow continued playing.

Tera Melos was named by the Associated Press as having released one of the five top overlooked albums of 2005! This article will appear in over 100 newspapers across the country and world over the next few days.

11/14/2005: Phenomenauts Update!

The Phenomenauts are opening for Les Claypool at The Fillmore for New Years! Get your tickets quick, this sells out every year. I find this especially interesting since The Phenomenauts used to play illegal "commando" shows right outside The Fillmore when shows were getting out, and would keep playing until threatened with arrest...

As their first foray into the world of children's books, The Phenomenauts appear along-side Weird Al, Blues Traveler, Hootie And The Blowfish and The Spin Doctors in the new book+CD, Dog Train: A Wild Ride on the Rock-and-Roll Side, performing songs by Grammy award winning author Sandra Boynton. The Phenomenauts' contribution to the project is the track (Don't Give Me That) Broccoli.

P.S. Tera Melos has a NEW WEBSITE. They are on tour right now, and the big home-coming show will be on December 8th at The Boardwalk (Sacramento/Orangvalle) with The (International) Noise Conspiracy!

11/08/2005: Winter Is Coming

First I want to thank everyone who mail-ordered over the past two weeks for their patience. We got robbed recently and the related BS landed us about a week behind on filling mail-orders. Keanu Reeves was right, we are far to dependent on computers.. But the new one just showed up, I've been working for the past sixteen hours straight, and we are once again on-line and all caught up! (Don't worry, we didn't get more than five days behind, and if you don't have your loot yet -- it will be there soon!)

Some updates:

**TERA MELOS played a kick-head show at a warehouse in ghetto-Sacramento earlier this week! I would say "kick ass," but this time it was "kick head" as my lovely girlfriend Jessica was on the receiving end of Jeff's patented guitar-shredding-cart-wheel and blacked out from it. It was pretty awesome though, and the new Tera Melos songs will blow your mind even more than their album blows your mind already.

**BIG D AND THE KIDS TABLE just had the most amazing Halloween show ever with sixteen foot jumps, costumes, a packed house with over 1,500 people.. Wow.. I'm bummed that I missed it, but next year for sure!! With Dave's jumps, Jeff's cartweels, and Danny Secretions - er, top secret, - we really should just start a Springman pro-wrestling league..

**THE PHENOMENAUTS just played a private party in New York City to celebrate the release of a children's book written by this rad Grammy award winning chick. OK it is 4am and I forgot all the details, but my point is that Weird Al was there, along with the Spin Doctors and I think Hootie from that blowfish band, and I guess they're all cadets now? (WTF)

I'll post news about the book in a bit, it is quite awesome and The Phenomenauts are on the CD soundtrack along with all the bands I just mentioned.

**THE SECRETIONS celebrated Danny's birthday party with all Sacramento bands doing Sacramento band covers, in an all-girls catholic school auditorium!! It was ridiculous, even an all-star Groovie Ghoulies cover band, with cake and unicorns.

**THE RUM DIARY just played some shows with THE APPLE SEED CAST!!! And we finally have their LPs in stock!! They were to ship last week, but we didn't have proper padding for the envelopes to make sure you would get them safe.. but we just got a bunch of FedEx boxes that are the right size and easy to turn inside-out, so your LPs will be there very shortly.. And for making you wait, we are now throwing in MORE LOOT!! Not only do you get a totally awesome 45 minute DVD, but also a copy of The Rum Diary's split CD with The Killowathours (limited pressing of 2,000)!! If you already have it just give it to a friend and share the rock.

That's enough for today. Don't forget to vote!!

XOXO

10/31/2005: TERA FUCKING MELOS

Whatsup Magazine says: "Tera Melos, hailing from Sacramento, Calif., was perhaps the best opening band I have ever seen at the 3B. Flailing and writhing on the floor, doing handstands off their guitars and onto their amps, and delivering some of the most intricate and creative spastic math rock I have witnessed live, they were easily the best band of the night-probably even the month. And they played first."

ORDER THEIR NEW ALBUM. VISIT THEIR MYSPACE.COM PAGE FOR TOUR DATES.

10/21/2005: Lots to say

1. Here is some video of Jeff from Tera Melos' face after getting it cut open on Nick's bass: [WMA file, 4.0M]
Their CD release show last week was EPIC, 800+ people trying to pack into a tiny coffee-house meant to hold under 100, backflips, jump-kicks, with surprisingly few injuries.
We have only EIGHT of their CD's left with the dead-bugs so act quick if you want to be totally disgusting!

2. We're on Downloadpunk.com!
Fill your iPod with legally obtained Springman MP3s!
Pain has the #8 and #15 most popular album downloads today, congratulations guys!!! Link: [Springman on DownloadPunk.com]
Pain's final album, Full Speed Ahead, will be available on Springman around the end of November.

3. The Rum Diary's We're Afraid Of Heights Tonight Limited edition LP (only 100 made!) are finally here!!! We are almost done packing them all up, and will have the pre-orders all sent out by the end of next week. Not only that, but each LP comes with a full-length Rum Diary DVD!
This album is the most amazing thing they have ever done, and we only have a few left, so order yours now if you want one!
The CD version will be released in early 2006 on Devil In The Woods Records. This LP includes some bonus songs that will not be on the CD.

4. Thrice and Propagandhi both released new albums on my birthday, October 18. Please buy them for me! I am getting old, 23, shit...
Thrice is fucking awesome and even played a concert inside the Springman office some years back.

5. If you like Big D And The Kids Table, we have a brand new exclusive-- WHOOPS, I'm not supposed to talk about that until Monday.
But go see them on tour this November with The Dropkick Murphies!!!

XOXO,
=AVI=

9/19/2005: Sacramento Update!

Nathan from Tera Melos broke one of his guitar tuning pegs off on Jeff's face! Jeff had a headache for two whole days! The new Tera Melos CD comes out October 4th, you should pre-order it.

Mickie from The Secretions just had a rock-n-roll yard-sale! He sold his roommates old LPs even though they were eaten by termites. Their new CD just came out, you should order it.

The local Safeway (grocery store) has this amazing metal horse out front. I'd have climbed it, but there is a cop standing guard 24/7, to keep me from doing that. And the local dance club, Lipstick, is way to cool for me, but thanks to The Brilliant Red Lights for showing me around!
