So there we were doing mail order, minding our own business, when the floor collapsed into the sacramento catacombs, being the curious and non-chalant fellows we are we ignored that the office and avis apartment was just destoyed (ironicly not destroyed were all the cds we need to sell that are still on sale!) and began down a dark and foreboding tunnel that lead us a big fucking box of 'up the fixx' promotional cd's. Since the cd has been out for about a year now the point of using a promotional copy for its textbook use is void we have been sticking these in mailboxes, cribs, wedding cakes, the bottom of cereal boxes, potato bins, anywhere we can get our grubby hands on. but i assume people are gona be angry when they get these precious gifts from baby jesus (us) and not appreciate it. So if you truly want one, hunt us down like the dogs we are and ask for one, or like always, if you send us packages of awesome stuff/things/goods we'll send you a package back with one in it, and maybe some other stuff you didnt ask for/want. We always appriciate it when you fine folks proove you exist.
GADZOOKS! Look at this awesome thing!!!! The Interwebs tell me that Knowhere Records is, as we vicariously chat through past computer scriblins, working on a Groovie Ghoulies tribute album. Im pretty excited, god speed brave snakecharmers.
As mentioned before, we uncovered hidden harlets related treasures in a very arceologicaly adventurous fashion (speaking of, if you didnt like the new Indiana Jones you can go eat a bowl of dicks because Indiana Jones can do whatever he wants and fall into whatever crazy scenario he pleases. That said Shilo Boufe cannot and neither can his Jumanji monkeys.) anyway, we have a fuck-ton of sleeves for up the fix left over, so we donated them to Deputy Danny Sprocket for the release of the first comp on his Label "Fishnuts Records" which concentrates on younger bands in sacramento and the surrounding areas. So Him, Lys Mayo, Nojan, and myself spent a good afternoon fucking up his front yard converting harlets albums to house "bust a nut" so he can get this release out there once and for all. I believe the comp costs around 2 bucks and if you arent a jerk (and your not a jerk are you?) you should check it out and give him an order so he gets too swamped with business to finish school and ruins his future. Harrass him here But more on that jerk soon.
New features, new albums, new ideas, lots of new projects including one thats gona make my head explode, sales, stickers, shows, crazy schemes, all kinds of new things are afoot and we would be honored if you would join us.
So my plan was to write a big proclamation full of spelling mistakes and plot holes about Kepi's 2 new Cd's and how great they are why you should drop that mouse or newborn and run to your nearest buying facility for em. But this picture already said it for me.
And let us not forget the clusterfuck of good times Kepi will have his hand in this summer on the Asian Man records Tour! Our very own Mitch Clem even drew the poster!
Tomorrow in Sacramento Kepi will wrangle all his pals and play a free show at Cesar Chavez park with Kevin Second to celebrate his new records, and you should totally go! Mike Tahutos is coming!
and be sure not to forget the other members of Kepi the band, and Kepi and Friends, Freak, Dino, Danny, Jazz and Lys, you all make me so proud!
AnarchEoin (AKA Eoin Nobody) just got Kepi, formerly of the Groovie Ghoulies, to spill the beans on his latest musical projects, upcoming records, aliens, breakfast cereal, and all sorts of fun stuff! Click below for the Silver Sprocket exclusive Kepi interview.
Eoin: Well, you said you were recording earlier today. Let's start with talking about that.
K: I'm making two records that come out May 6th on Asian Man. A full rock record that's completely done, and a solo record with acoustic songs recorded all over town with Kevin Seconds, Anton Barboe, (and) David Houston.
E: and when are they coming out?
K: They both come out May 6th hopefully. (laughs) That's where I was all day today, finishing them up.
E: "Kepi The Band" is probably your biggest project since the Groovie Ghoulies, how did you get such a super group together? (Danny of the Secretions, Jazz Brown of the Helper Monkeys, Dino, and Lys Mayo of Isonomy)
K: Everybody came to me, they all said "if you need a drummer!" "if you need a bass player!" "if you need a guitar player!" We're all friends, Jazz and Danny had already toured with the Ghoulies before. Dino had been in bands with me, and I was in two projects with Lys, so I knew we were all good to go. So they all came to me and I'm really lucky.
E: What about Kepi and friends featuring Freak, how did you come in contact with her?
K: Freak came to me at the Boardwalk last summer and said "I wanna do a Ghoulies tribute band!" and I was like "Can I be in it?" and she got Lys and we did the tribute thing for Halloween, and they just started coming up for shows at Javalounge and it kinda turned into the latest band.
E: It's so cool that you have a band with people who were such big fans of yours.
K: Yea, I just wanted people with enthusiasm, you know, and I know that Danny has it, Jazz has it, Dino has it, Lys has it, I mean Lys is such a go getter! And Freak is doing her homework and now we're getting shows, its great!
E: Tell us about Garagezilla.
K: (laughs) Garagezilla is very good friend of mine and he's part of the I.C.E. There's a whole troop of crypto zoological entities on the way, there's a bat coming and stuff. He's doing very well, he does all Ghoulie covers for now but he hopes to have his own material soon.
E: What's the I.C.E.?
K: Incredible Crypto-zoological Entities, that's all his monster friends from outer space. They got chased off the planet by evil mushrooms on Halloween in case you didn't know.
E: That's what I've herd
K: "I've heard the rumors." - Well they're true!
E: When you were growing up, what kind of bands made you want to get into music?
K: Well, as far as punk, (bands) like The Ramones and The Misfits and stuff like that, and I liked the big bands like The Rolling Stones and Kiss and all that kind of stuff, but Ramones and Misfits changed my life as far as punk rock.
E: In later years what music continued to inspire you even as your career was going, and who are you into at the moment?
K: In recent years I (have been) inspired by the careers of Johnny Thunders and Neil Young, who can rock with a band and play great acoustic. I also really dig the D.I.Y. ethic of the Supersuckers, who do their own label, tour like mad.
E: What was your first band like?
K: In high school I just had cover bands and stuff, and then the Groovie Ghoulies. The Groovie Ghoulies went forever.
E: So you didn't have a large lineage of bands before GG?
K: No, a couple little spin-off things, but the Groovie Ghoulies were just going the whole time.
E: what was it like opening for Chuck Berry?
K: Awesome!!! Twice!!! Twaseome!!!! I am so lucky!
E: What's your favorite songs to do live?
K: Anything people want to hear! Lately Hey Kepi Let's Go, Supermodel, Love on Demand. New stuff.
E: You've toured around the world, what was your favorite tour and what's your favorite place to go visit?
K: Every single day is a great adventure. I have been so lucky to go to Europe a bunch, people there rule, but people here rule too. Monday nights at the Javalounge, I tour there on my bike! I got to go to Japan and Australia and they are as fun as the Javalounge.
E: Who's B-Face?
K: B-face was the bass player of The Queers from, like, Love Songs For The Retarded up till like Don't Back Down I think. He was in the Queers for like seven years and The Queers took us on our first tour when we were in the Ghoulies, and they broke up for like a year and B-Face started touring with the Ghoulies for like 2 years and played on some Ghoulie records like Fun In The Dark and Travels With My Amp and stuff. Then he left the Ghoulies to play with The Real Kids. He lives in Boston and he would have to fly out for tours and it was crazy, but he's a really great guy and a really great Musician. He's just a buddy of mine and he's on all the classic Queers records, you can still find him. And he's a Patriots fan. I'm sorry your team lost yesterday B-Face.
E: If you could be one Disney character, who would you be and why?
K: Jack Skellington because he's cool, simple, and emo.
E: You Have One of the most distinctive voices around. Have you ever done any voice work?
K: I totally want to! I read they are making the animated Lucha Libre Movie and I went down to LA to audition, but didn't get the part. They already had Lux in mind, from the Cramps, and he got it. But they encouraged me to try out anyway and I did and now I've done an official screen test. I would love to get into voiceovers and stuff but it's tough work, nobody wants to lose their job.
E: Do you believe in Ghosts?
K: Yes
E: Ever had any paranormal encounters?
K: Not with Ghosts. I've seen UFOs, but I know people who have seen (ghosts) and (I) trust them.
E: So you believe in Aliens?
K: One I saw was incredible, just shooting across the sky faster than any plane or anything could possibly travel, and it was daylight so it was not gas or whatever they say.
E: Having the choice of being associated with one monster, mythical creature or paranormal being, which one would you pick and why?
K: My favorite monsters are green for some reason: Frankenstein, Godzilla, Creature from the black lagoon, etc. I am already associated with Bigfoot I guess, we have a song and a video together.
E: Yea, whatever became of Bigfoot?
K: He's living outside of Portland now, but hopefully I’ll get out touring and see him again. I think he made a cameo in the Tenacious D movie.
E: Favorite Cereal?
K: Oh man, you can always go with Golden Grams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, those are some of my all time favorites. I really like Pooh's Honey Bees, I don't know if they are still making it. They make little limited edition cereals and things like that, I've had different Simpson ones but they change. But the classics would be Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Golden Grams.
E: Its happened once or twice that some charlatans give you shit because they think you're "not punk" or whatever. What do you do when that happens and does it still happen?
K: Music means something different to everyone and everyone has an opinion, so you let them have it, what can you do? I make music for me and hope others like it.
E: How long have you been doing Kepi art?
K: Since 3:00a.m. today.
E: We were talking about making kepi action figures, what kind of actions would you want it to have once we develop the technology?
K: Either have it fly, or a Kepi shaped I-pod.
E: And finally, can we be expecting a Kepi The Band tour anytime soon?
K: Hopefully in summer or fall. Solo Kepi will be on The Asian Man Tour with The Queers, Bomb the Music Industry, Lemuria, and AJJ.
Visit Kepi on MySpace for more information and tour-dates! The few remaining Groovie Ghoulies albums from the Lookout! days are available in limited quantities from our web-store at SpringmanRecords.com

Kepi, formerly of The Groovie Ghoulies, performing "Fun In The Dark" with The Phenomenauts! Kepi looks mighty dashing in his Officer Jacket. Thanks to Hans for the video from The Phoenix Theatre, September 22, 2007.
The Groovie Ghoulies were a constant shining beacon of awesome in every way, not just pop-punk pioneers but also the nicest, most generous, and cheerful people I've ever met. It has been an incredible honor to be friends with and work with them over the years, and I wish them the best in all future endeavors.
Here is the official statement from the band posted a few moments ago on from their myspace profile.
Dear Ghoulie Family,
It is with deep regret and sorrow that we must inform you that we have parted ways as a band for personal reasons.
We thank you for your tireless love and support over the years and encourage you to continue to support the bands we have played with in Sacramento and beyond.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to any messages sent to our MySpace account. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.
Again, we are deeply grateful for all the love you have shown us.
The PLASTIC shows this past weekend were stellar! The Phenomenauts got to debut a new gadget, The Kitten Cannon, basically a large gun that shoots stuff everywhere (like confetti, glitter, pixie-sticks or whatever we feel like shoving in there). It has been a well-kept secret that many of The Phenomenauts' best ideas are actually stolen from The Teenage Harlets, and the Kitten Cannon is no exception, built strong enough to "launch a kitten through another kitten." We meant to make two of them, but during construction, Atom (The Harlets drummer) accidentally blew one up and may have permanently damaged his hearing in the process. Whoops.
K4 took an ass-ton of pictures, most of which I don't understand or remember.
Thank-you to everyone who came out for these wacky shows, and thanks to The Phenomenauts, Epoxies, Groovie Ghoulies, Teenage Harlets and Rock N Roll Adventure Kids for making everything so ridiculous and fun!!!
Want to download the new Tera Melos record for free? Since streaming it at punknews.org obviously isn't good enough for you greedy fucks, ask these guys. I guess Tera Melos is post-punk? They posted it before we even picked up the vinyl, so I'm guessing it's a rip of the punknews.org stream, but have no idea really. Thanks Samantha! == The Groovie Ghoulies are invading Europe this summer!

And the new HANTS record comes out April 17th on Kepi Ghoulie's own Green Door Records! More info on that soon too!
To close this year with a bang, on December 8th The Secretions will be getting kicked out of Sacramento's Arco Arena for fucking with Gnarles Barkley, Papa Roach and My Chemical Romance. The Secretions will also be opening the show.
The flier doesn't even mention the other bands. I love it! More info online here.
Tickets are $35 so you might have to try and win some or sneak in. Thank you to all the Secretin's that voted, you fucking rock! If the video we shoot doesn't get taken by the cops as evidence, we will be posting it on youtube shortly after the show. Don't tell anyone, but I'm actually kind of excited about getting to see those other bands.
If $35 is to much, see The Groovie Ghoulies with The Living End at The Boardwalk that same night!
I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween. Things at Springman HQ are BONKERS! Thank you for coming here for your Holiday shopping needs, we have lots of great cheap CDs and we appreciate your keeping our mail-order department super busy.
Here is a band-by-band update!
The Phenomenauts just announced another round of dates with The Toasters coming up this month! Visit their MySpace page for the details, and check back next week for EVEN MORE shows.
The Phenomenauts' Annual Zombie Party was incredible as usual this year, with a surprise appearance by The Teenage HarNuts:
Those with a good memory may remember The PhenomeNuts from last-year:
Big D And The Kids Table just played two epic Halloween parties in Boston at The Avalon! If you have pictures or video from either show, please post it online for us to share! Big D just got done playing a bunch of shows with The Toasters, I like how they play with our bands on both coasts. Check out Big D on tour with Rancid in December! Visit Big D on Myspace for tour updates.
The Groovie Ghoulies are almost done with their own Cramps tour, including their own Halloween show at The Fillmore in San Francisco! Check back soon for LOTS AND LOTS of shows all over California and more Ghoulie news... Updates on their MySpace page.
Tera Melos just got back from an epic tour with The Fall Of Troy! There is no rest for the awesome, Tera Melos will be recording for an EP CD this weekend. Three songs, it will be about 30 minutes, I guess that's an EP? They played almost all new songs on this Fall Of Troy tour, if you caught any of the sets, you ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED about these upcoming recordings. Stay tuned to Tera Melos' myspace page for more news and tour updates.
The Secretions are in the running to play the "Twisted Christmas" show at the Arco Arena in Sacramento! This would be the hugest show they have ever played, and our boys would get to make total asses of My Chemical Romance and Papa Roach. They won't make fun of Gnarls Barkley though. PLEASE!!!! Click here to vote. You have to register with KWOD first, it only takes a minute and if you click the box, they won't send you any annoying e-mails or ever bug you ever again.
Lots of Secretions shows coming up all over CA (and even Reno), visit them on MySpace for show listings and other news updates, and word on Danny Secretions new radio show!
Jason Webley just got back from tour Australia with The Dresden Dolls! Check him out this November touring the West Coast with a full band, including Jherek of The Dead Science and Xiu Xiu. If you attend one of the shows, please draw a unicorn for Jherek and tell him it's from me (Avi). This year's big Seattle show will be on November 11 instead of the usual Halloween! Tour dates and other updates are on Jason's website.
The Teenage Harlets are laying low, having started a big fight with The Phenomenauts over their "Free Angel Nova" t-shirt.. Just kidding! See them on tour all January and February, including a bunch of dates with our secret crushes in The Rock And Roll Adventure Kids! Add them on MySpace if you're fifteen years old.
The River City Rebels just got back from a very strange national fly-away tour of free shows paid for by a big evil cigarette company. I know lots of hippies who smoke, but none smoke independently made cigarettes, so eat a dick. It was a great tour, and debuted a bunch of The Rebels fucking incredible new songs! Stay tuned for more news on that. Listen on their MySpace page!
The Rum Diary has been laying low, but has a brand new drummer and will start playing again next month! Stay tuned for news on that too. And check out their limited edition four-way-split 7" with The Jade Shader, Facing New York, and Years Around The Sun!!! Visit them too on MySpace. And check out Daniel's almost finished solo-project, Identical Homes, its panty-dropping music.
*PHEW* I think that’s it for now. Our records are still in heavy rotation at the Sacramento post office down-town.
It's about fucking time. The Groovie Ghoulies and The Cramps on tour this October. Here are the dates so far (Thanks Suzi!):

Kepi from The Groovie Ghoulies will be on NPR Sacramento (88.9FM) today at 2pm pacific time talking about (what else does he know?) punk rock! You can listen online right here. === The Phenomenauts are on a national tour right now with Left Alone, then The River City Rebels and The Teenage Harlets (tour dates on myspace)! And, Big D And The Kids Table has some shows coming up with Rancid (tour dates on myspace)! === It's rare that I'll ask you to vote for something when its up against bands like Pain or Dillinger Four since both Pain and Dillinger Four are such fucking awesome bands, you have no business being on this website if you don't have their records (unless you are using this website to order the Pain records), but I digress, this request is special.
The Teenage Harlets are in the running to be the #1 band this week on PunkRadioCast, a friggen awesome online radio station incase you didn't know. We would GREATLY APPRECIATE if you could click this link below here and then vote for The Teenage Harlets once a day until Sunday. Don't hack it or we get disqualified, just go click it for real. If we win, I'll bring cupcakes to their next bunch of shows, no joke.
And if you live within six hours of San Francisco, come to their CD release show on Friday at The Covered WagonAnnie's Social Club, with the Secretions, Thee Merry Widows, Rock And Roll Adventure Kids, and Flexx Bronco! I'll be there, the drunk obnoxious one that isn't Johnny.
You probably know them from their extensive touring with Springman bands like The Groovie Ghoulies, Phenomenauts, Secretions, Jason Webley, and their spot on our Space Station stage on the Warped Tour a few years back.. But just incase, check out their page on MySpace.com or read about them right here:
The TEENAGE HARLETS don't play rock & roll -- they play danger. Flying a defiant finger in the face of the San Francisco garage scene since 1999, TEENAGE HARLETS style rock has no tiresome monologs, no politics, no talking, no tuning, no fancy knobs or effects. They play revved up, stripped down, non-stop short attention-span surf-garage-punk-rock-mayhem that will have you singing and dancing while you run for your life. Worried? No need to fear. Thanks to Springman Records and the latest in garage-based recording technology, you can dance along in the relative safety of your own home as the HARLETS tear through 22 songs in 30 minutes on their new record, Up the Fixx, in stores July 11thJuly 25th, 2006.
In other news,
This will probably be the ONLY Groovie Ghoulies show this year: I really don't know what they're thinking letting the Secretions play this family event.
AND, We just updated the Tour Dates page, lots of new shows for the entire Springman family.
First I want to thank everyone who mail-ordered over the past two weeks for their patience. We got robbed recently and the related BS landed us about a week behind on filling mail-orders. Keanu Reeves was right, we are far to dependent on computers.. But the new one just showed up, I've been working for the past sixteen hours straight, and we are once again on-line and all caught up! (Don't worry, we didn't get more than five days behind, and if you don't have your loot yet -- it will be there soon!)
Some updates:
**TERA MELOS played a kick-head show at a warehouse in ghetto-Sacramento earlier this week! I would say "kick ass," but this time it was "kick head" as my lovely girlfriend Jessica was on the receiving end of Jeff's patented guitar-shredding-cart-wheel and blacked out from it. It was pretty awesome though, and the new Tera Melos songs will blow your mind even more than their album blows your mind already.
**BIG D AND THE KIDS TABLE just had the most amazing Halloween show ever with sixteen foot jumps, costumes, a packed house with over 1,500 people.. Wow.. I'm bummed that I missed it, but next year for sure!! With Dave's jumps, Jeff's cartweels, and Danny Secretions - er, top secret, - we really should just start a Springman pro-wrestling league..
**THE PHENOMENAUTS just played a private party in New York City to celebrate the release of a children's book written by this rad Grammy award winning chick. OK it is 4am and I forgot all the details, but my point is that Weird Al was there, along with the Spin Doctors and I think Hootie from that blowfish band, and I guess they're all cadets now? (WTF) I'll post news about the book in a bit, it is quite awesome and The Phenomenauts are on the CD soundtrack along with all the bands I just mentioned.
**THE SECRETIONS celebrated Danny's birthday party with all Sacramento bands doing Sacramento band covers, in an all-girls catholic school auditorium!! It was ridiculous, even an all-star Groovie Ghoulies cover band, with cake and unicorns.
**THE RUM DIARY just played some shows with THE APPLE SEED CAST!!! And we finally have their LPs in stock!! They were to ship last week, but we didn't have proper padding for the envelopes to make sure you would get them safe.. but we just got a bunch of FedEx boxes that are the right size and easy to turn inside-out, so your LPs will be there very shortly.. And for making you wait, we are now throwing in MORE LOOT!! Not only do you get a totally awesome 45 minute DVD, but also a copy of The Rum Diary's split CD with The Killowathours (limited pressing of 2,000)!! If you already have it just give it to a friend and share the rock.
All tour dates are updated!! Big D touring with The Dropkick Murphys! The Phenomenauts on both coasts! Tera Melos leaving a trail of destruction! Groovie Ghoulies in Europe! Jason Webley in 2 countries and 37 states! The Rum Diary all over one state! Day At The Fair all over the place in 67 states! Go look!!!
P.S. Wouldn't it be crazy if Big D And The Kids Table came out with a new CD next month? Keep an eye out for some crazy rumors.
