5/09/2007: Lonely Heart Blues: Groovie Ghoulies 1989-2007

The Groovie Ghoulies were a constant shining beacon of awesome in every way, not just pop-punk pioneers but also the nicest, most generous, and cheerful people I've ever met. It has been an incredible honor to be friends with and work with them over the years, and I wish them the best in all future endeavors.

Here is the official statement from the band posted a few moments ago on from their myspace profile.

Dear Ghoulie Family,

It is with deep regret and sorrow that we must inform you that we have parted ways as a band for personal reasons.

We thank you for your tireless love and support over the years and encourage you to continue to support the bands we have played with in Sacramento and beyond.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to any messages sent to our MySpace account. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.

Again, we are deeply grateful for all the love you have shown us.

Love,
the Ghoulies

5/06/2007: Dance While The Sky Crashes Down

Jason Webley came through 924 Gilman Street in Berkley last night with the best new band I've discovered all year, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.

Being Cinco De Mayo, Jason decided we needed a purple dinosaur piñata.

For Cinco De Mayo, Jason Webley got us a piñata And filled it with messy gross things

Instead of candy, it was filled with Ramen, toilet paper, melted popsicles, and pancake mix (since the convenience store had no flour).

Things got messy:

In other news, save your $8 and don't watch Spiderman 3, it is TERRIBLE.

To quote the great Mitch Clem (who has 3 new comics this week!),

Choose your own adventure:
1) Bruce Campbell has a cameo as the Rhino.
2) Peter Parker turns into Connor Oberst halfway through the movie.

One of these statements is true. The other should be.
